It didn’t work this time. Slavia fell to Feyenoord 1:3 at home and after the quarter-finals they are out of the Europa League. Traoré scored the only goal for the visitors, Dessers scored twice and Sinisterra once.
Slavia were slight favourites in the return match. But before all the fans had time to settle down, the visitors were already celebrating a goal.
In the second minute, after a mistake in the midfield, Cyriel Dessers ran alone at goalkeeper Ales Mandous and easily sent the ball behind his back.
Slavia then worked hard and pressed Feyenoord, deservedly equalising in the 14th minute, although the goal resulted from a huge mistake by the team from Rotterdam.
A defender returned the ball to the goalkeeper, but the pass was so slow that Ibrahim Traoré picked up the ball, who made a tackle on the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.
After less than half an hour, the Seychellois could have taken the lead, but a great save by the visitors’ defender blocked Peter Olayinka’s shot. The visitors then took the lead at the end of the half.
Dessers, the scorer of the first goal, found himself alone in front of Mandous, who made an excellent save. Nelson could have put Feyenoord in front, but he just missed the bar.
The game was tied. Unfortunately, Mandous cashed in again in the 59th minute when he made a mistake on a cross and offered the ball to Dessers, who took full advantage.
The Slavs tried to reverse the result, but the nail in their coffin was hammered in by Luis Sinisterra, who fired Mandous over at the front post. The Slavia goalkeeper made an excellent save a few minutes later, but it didn’t change the result.
Taras Kacharaba was also shown a red card in the setup, as he brushed off an attacking player. Slavia thus bid farewell to Europe and the fifteenth position in the national coefficient will not be reached, although the competition also dropped out.
