Well, that was exciting. Prague Slavia advanced to the group stage of the European Conference League, beating Polish Raków in extra time 2:0. The goals were scored by Usor and Schranz.
Slavia went into the match with a one-goal deficit, which they brought back from Poland. But Raków did not come to defend and from the beginning of the match was a fairly evenly matched opponent, if not even better.
They could even have taken the lead in the 23rd minute when Ivi López broke into the box and hit the left post of Ales Mandous’ goal. A few minutes later the Poles threatened again, but this time they blocked a hopeful shot themselves.
At the end of the second half, the Susians demanded a penalty kick after a foul on Stanislav Tecl, but the referee did not react to their desires and ended the half scoreless.
Five minutes after returning to the pitch, the visitors threatened again, but Vladislavs Gutkovskis’ shot did not end up in the net. Less than an hour into the game, López had another chance, won a one-on-one situation, but then missed the empty net.
As they say, you don’t give – you get. Moses Usor got in on the break and sent his team into the lead from the edge of the big area. This gave Slavia a boost and they created more chances, but they couldn’t get the ball in the net.
The match had to go into extra time. In the 97th minute, Christ Tiéhi let the visitors’ goalkeeper excel with a successful shot, but the pressure did not let up after that.
In the overtime, it worked. After a fluffy centre, Ivan Schranz got into the air and sent the ball into the net with a header. Slavia will advance and play the group stage.
