Skoda’s latest range of competition cars is based on the fourth-generation Fabia and features several improvements over the previous model, which won the WRC2 title last year.
However, you can see the new car for yourself in the attached Twitter posts below.
The Fabia RS is powered by an all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged engine based on Skoda’s road-going RS models, which can develop 289bhp and is said to benefit from four-wheel drive.
The bodywork has also undergone major modifications, starting with the wheelbase, which is now wider to improve weight distribution and rear stability. Skoda has also redesigned the brake cooling system, aerodynamic package and increased the suspension travel.
In addition, the new car has already undergone test drives on asphalt, gravel and snow in the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Finland.
Andreas Mikkelsen, who won the championship last year with the Fabia Rally2 and the Toksport World Rally Team, which Škoda supports, also contributed to the development of the car.
Former Citroen and Toyota WRC factory driver Kris Meeke and Škoda test drivers Jan Kopecký and Emil Lindholm were also involved in the development of the car.
The Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 is expected to make its competitive debut in the WRC2 class later this year.
“ŠKODA Motorsport has delivered more than 450 cars to its customer teams, giving it a one-third share of the global Rally2 market. The successor, which is built on the foundations of the fourth generation FABIA, aims to continue this unparalleled run of success,” reads an official statement from Skoda.
