Singles at the US Open has a third round on the schedule. The Czechs will face opponents from the world’s top 20, the world’s number one players from the second 100 of the rankings

Both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments at the US Open have third-round matches on the schedule starting Friday afternoon our time. Two Czech players are among the top 32 tennis players, who will not have an easy job in Saturday’s matches. What is the composition of all the pairs in the battle to reach the eighth round?

Petra Kvitova, who is ranked 21st in the WTA rankings, will face the current world No. 10 Garbiñe Muguruza. The Spaniard knocked out 17-year-old Czech Linda Fruhvirtova in the previous round.

One place below Kvitova in the singles rankings is Karolina Pliskova, who will play Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. She is currently ranked world and seeded 13th in the tournament.

The number one ranked player, Iga Świąteková, will face the home team’s Lauren Davis, the 105th ranked tennis player in the world. Among the other duels, the American derby between Madison Keys and Cori Gauff or the possible last match of Serena Williams’ career are worth watching. She will face Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.

Men’s number one Daniil Medvedev will play the world number 174, China’s Yibing Wu. The number two Rafael Nadal will play Frenchman Richard Gasquet for a place in the top 16.

Equal and interesting duels are promised between several seeded tennis players, such as that of Denis Shapovalov with Andrey Rublyov, Pablo Carreño-Busta with Alex de Minaur or Marin Cilic with Daniel Evans. Selected US Open matches are broadcast live on Eurosport 1 and 2.
