Abdallah Sima finally got to make his debut after his summer transfer to England. He played against Barnsley at Stoke, where he is visiting from Brighton, and immediately received a thunderous welcome from the fans.
With four goals in last season’s Europa League, Sima attracted a lot of attention. In particular, the goal at Leicester made a huge impression in England. So it’s no wonder that Stoke fans were delighted when they were told of Sima’s loan spell in their jersey.
The Senegalese striker left for Brighton on the last day of the transfer window, but immediately headed on loan to Stoke. However, due to visa issues, he has not been able to start any games yet, he only got to play on Wednesday 16th September. He came on in the 76th minute against Barnsley.
And he immediately received a thunderous welcome from the crowd, who were very excited to see the new signing. Fans even took to Twitter to call for Sima to be deployed in the starting line-up for the next game.
“Looked good, hopefully he’ll play early on,” wrote one Stoke fan. “Great player, he exudes great energy, ” added a Potters supporter. “Please put him up against Derby from the start,” pleaded another Stoke fan.
As for Sim’s debut itself, he couldn’t have picked a crazier game. The game ended 1-1, Vrancic could have put Stoke in front, but he missed the penalty. In the 85th minute, Smith saw a red card, but that wasn’t all.
A melee broke out at the start of the set-up when the Stoke assistant coach tried to get the ball back into play quickly, but a member of the visiting bench got in the way. A mass scuffle resulted in three red cards for members of the management team.
