Šilhavý on why he chose Kuchta over Tecl and Kudel. The Slavia striker will probably go anyway
Jaroslav Šilhavý nominated 20 names for the Nations League matches. As traditionally every nomination, this one also caused a stir among the public. The most talked about are the call-ups of Ondrej Kudela and Jakub Jankt and the omission of Stanislav Tecl.
Jaroslav Šilhavý nominated 20 names for the Nations League matches. As traditionally every nomination, this one also caused a stir among the public. The most talked about are the call-ups of Ondrej Kudela and Jakub Jankt and the omission of Stanislav Tecl.
Tecl has long been a player ridiculed, both by other fans and often even by his own. He was often included in the national team because Jaroslav Šilhavý, like Jindřich Trpišovský, sees in him something extra, a positive influence on other players that we who are not in the cabinet have no chance to see.
But this season Tecl has shot himself in the foot and added goals to all the other positive qualities. He has 8 goals in six games and is the league’s top scorer, but this time he didn’t get an invitation to the national team.
“We are aware of Stand’s form, but we preferred Kuchta. During the last national team meeting he showed that he can be a very valid player. We are counting on him to do the same now,” Šilhavy explained his decision at the press conference.
“Tecl is mentioned in every nomination. It is discussed that he is called up when he doesn’t score goals. Now he is scoring goals, but he is not in the selection yet. But the nomination is not final. We have three spots open, and we’ll fill one with Standa. We’ve included Hložek among the strikers, but he can play on the side. We simply have a place there,” he hinted that the Slavia striker will probably be nominated.
Another much speculated name is Ondrej Kudel. He is playing in Indonesia, so there were doubts about his roster size at the highest level.
“We are a bit thin at centre-back, plus there is a complication with the injured Holeš. We originally thought that Krejci from Sparta would be put together. It didn’t work out. Petrasek and Celestka are also out, as well as Kalas. Ondra has disappeared from sight a bit, but we’re watching him via video, we have an overview. We can argue about the quality of the Indonesian league, but Ondra has shown in the past that he is an experienced player and that he can help us,” explains the coach of the national team.
Another name that is being discussed is Jakub Jankto. He hasn’t really got into form after joining Sparta, he scored for the first time this weekend, but otherwise his performances have been pretty poor.
“I agree that he is not in brilliant form, but we could always count on him in the national team. We considered nominating other players. For example, David Jurásek from Slavia, or Tomáš Čvančara, but in the end we agreed with Honza Suchopárek (U21 coach) that we would not include him in the nomination before the important barrage matches. They are playing for a lot,” adds Šilhavý.
