Pittsburgh is on the rise and Sidney Crosby has another historic record
In the Vancouver Canucks vs Pittsburgh Penguins game (3:4), the Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed their rising form. They took on the Western Conference leader Vancouver Canucks. The latter managed to score the winning goal by Erik Karlsson in overtime.
Captain Sidney Crosby is in fine form. He took the responsibility after Jake Guentzel’s injury in the last games to lead the team to the playoffs. And PIttsburgh has been winning the last few games. He is still seven points behind Tampa Bay, but he has five games to play.
Crosby had two assists in this game and once again showed his specialness. A pass to Rickard Rakell tied the game at 2-2. For Crosby, it was his 1,000th point of the regular season with an even number of players on the ice.
In this situation, he managed to score 408 goals and record 592 assists. Only eight other players in NHL history have reached that mark. In total, he has already played in 1,246 regular season games and has 1,564 points on 582 goals and 982 assists.
He is the most productive active player ahead of Alexander Ovechkin, who surpassed the 1,500-point mark this season and is 12th historically. Vancouver led 2-0 and 3-2 in the game. However, the Penguins were always able to tie the game.
Filip Hronek, the Czech Republic’s most productive defenceman this season, scored an assist for the Canucks and contributed to Boeser’s goal, which came on the power play to give the home team a two-goal lead. For Hronek, it is his 44th point of the season in 61 games played and he remains the second best Czech player after David Pastrňák.
However, Pittsburgh owned the end of the game. In the 50th minute, Lars Eller, who recently became the first Dane in NHL history to reach the 1,000th regular season game, tied the game after a pass from Letang, and in the second minute of overtime, Erik Karlsson secured the Penguins an extra point with his eighth goal of the season.
