Shock! Kvitova finishes in the second round of the Australian Open, Vondrousova advances

Petra Kvitová was the big surprise of the second round of the Australian Open, as she is leaving the tournament after a loss as the clear favourite. Markéta Vondroušová, on the other hand, secured her place.

Sorana Cirstea. This is the name of the opponent who provided the most pleasant surprise for Petra Kvitova’s fans. In the role of a more or less clear underdog, she managed to beat our tennis player in three sets.

The Romanian won the first set 6::4, but lost the second 1::6 and it seemed that Kvitova could turn the match around. But it didn’t happen. On the contrary. The native of Moravia lost the third and deciding set 6: 1 and was glad she didn’t get the canary. She made 44 unforced errors in the match.

No wonder the Petra Kvitova’s conqueror was happy to win. “She is an amazing player. I knew it was going to be tough, I’m really happy,” Cirstea was heard saying.

Markéta Vondroušová fared much better and managed to beat Rebecca Marinova in two sets. She won the first set clearly 6::1 and the second set 7::5. The match lasted less than an hour and a half.

In the third round Vondrousova will be able to avenge Kvitova. She will face Cirstea, who defeated Kvitova.
