UFC 267 offered a good batch of fantastic fights. The main card in particular didn’t have a single weak spot. The main event was a welterweight title fight between champion Jan Blachowicz and veteran Glover Teixeira.
According to all the bookmakers, the defending champion was a considerable favourite. Even in the Czech Republic, Jiri Prochazka was expected to face the Polish fighter in his next fight.
But the opposite is true. Teixeira has prepared well. He got Blachowicz down quickly in the first round, where he controlled him brilliantly throughout.
The second round was more stand-up, but the Brazilian native was able to land good shots on the Pole and then get him to the ground where he quickly got into a good position from which he was able to put the champion in a clean choke. Blachowicz knew it was over and quickly tapped out.
Both fighters showed mutual respect for each other after the fight. The Polish fighter stated that everything went wrong from his perspective as he left his legendary Polish power in the hotel room. Teixeira was understandably much happier, a great satisfaction for him.
In UFC history, Teixeira became the second oldest champion. He is currently 42 years old. Only the legendary Randy Couture was already the oldest holder at 45.
After the fantastic and shocking win, he then clearly named his first challenger: “Walk is next!”
According to his words, Teixeira will be ready for a title fight with the Moravian fighter in May next year.
