Adam Fox put the home team in the lead
The Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin was the traditional goalie of the team. On the other hand, Scott Wedgewood was preferred in Dallas’ goal this time. As in the last game against Boston, the Stars were again very active. However, the home team scored the first goal of the game.
At 07:46, Adam Fox beat Wedgewood for the first time in the game. It was the 9th goal of the season for the Rangers midfielder and after 46 games played he has a record of one point per game. Artemij Panarin, the fifth man in the scoring column, also scored an assist for his 75th point of the season.
Both teams sent 14 shots on goal in the second period. However, it was New York who scored again, as Kaapo Kakko scored his seventh goal of the season in the 29th minute. Dallas struck less than a minute later on the power play.
Dallas forward Miro Heiskanen stole the net from Shesterkin. However, by the end of the game, the home goaltender did not capitulate and acted as an impenetrable wall, although Dallas clearly dominated the final period 18-6.
Shesterkin picks up the Rangers win
On the other hand, the Rangers scored an empty net goal at 58:19 by Vincent Trocheck, his 19th goal of the season. Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider scored the assists. The clear star of the game was home goalie Shesterkin, who recorded 41 saves. He picked up his 23rd win of the season, although he started 36 games due to injury.
Thanks to him, the New York Rangers stretched their winning streak to 8 games. And in the Eastern Conference, they moved just one point behind Florida into second place. The Rangers are clearly dominated by the foursome of Panarin, Kredider, Zibanejad and Trocheck, who have amassed 233 points in the current season.
The Dallas Stars had to suffer their third straight defeat. Although, in the last two games, the Stars sent almost 90 shots on the opponents’ goal. However, it lacks efficiency in the end. Dallas continues to hold the second place in the Western Conference, but Colorado and Winnipeg are getting dangerously close.
