Football kicks off in England on Friday. There, the love of football is so strong that the public is excited, even though it is only the second league. Last year’s premier league Southampton travel to the ground of last year’s third league Sheffield Wednesday. What to expect from the game and what to bet on?

Sheffield’s preparation for the new season has not gone well at all, winning only one of their seven games, while losing four times. They won promotion from the third division in the play-offs and even managed to make up for a four-goal deficit in the semi-final.

Southampton were not much better, on the other hand, they chose qualitatively better opponents. They fell to Bournemouth, Benfica and Alkmaar, besides drawing once and winning. The squad is definitely top of the league.

Key Sheffield players

The already quite experienced Ashley Fletcher, an English striker, arrives on loan from Watford. He will be partnered up front by Michael Smith, who scored 20 goals and assisted three times last season

Southampton’s key players

The visitors are likely to go into the game with their quality centre-back. Neither captain James Ward-Prowse nor talent Romeo Lavia have been sold by the club yet. Scottish international Che Adams will be running around in attack.

Sheffield have struggled in the build-up, mainly in defence, conceding 12 goals in seven games, keeping zero only once. This is rather surprising, as last season in League Three the club relied on a solid defensive unit.

Southampton, on the other hand, have the potential to crush their opponents. Speed types Kamaldeen Sulemana or Samuel Edozie remained in the squad, let’s not forget that in the last round of last season Saints gave a four to Liverpool.

Considering Southampton’s experienced squad led by the midfield and Sheffield’s poor preparation full of conceded goals, I think the favourite will win on the ground of the newcomer from the third league.
