At 21 years old, the Moravian goalkeeper is fulfilling his dream. Matěj Kovář trains with Manchester United’s A-team, meets Cristiano Ronaldo and has a peek at the Champions League. He talked about everything in an interview for Slovácko’s club website.

Twenty-one-year-old Matěj Kovář, a Slovácko product, is now playing for Manchester United and fulfilling his dream. Despite his age, he has had a few peeks at the Red Devils’ first team training sessions and has met Cristiano Ronaldo.

So far, he takes the biggest experience in his career as when he got on the bench of Manchester United in a Champions League match. He himself is aware that he has a lot of work to do before he enters such an important match as the number one of his team.

“The coach has two to three players for each post. Everyone has to earn their place on the pitch. There is alot of competition here and that is what the training sessions are based on, where the players don’t give anything to each other,” Kovář explains his position.

He joined Manchester United when he was 17. He is now in his fourth year at the club and is happy to have taken the path he did. He takes it as a great experience and is happy with everything he has been through.

He has also met the biggest star in the cabin, Cristiano Ronaldo: “It’s unbelievable to share the cabin with such a player and watch him work on himself every day. It’s an incredible experience and motivation for me.”

He would like to motivate other young players to not be afraid to follow their dreams. According to him, anyone can join a big club and play with the best players if they are not afraid.

If he doesn’t get a first team nomination, he never wants to miss out on at least watching his teammates. He watches matches often and likes to.

“I always enjoy my national team duties. I am glad to be part of the national team. The goal is clear and that is to qualify for the European Championships. We have important matches ahead of us now that will tell us a lot, so keep your fingers crossed.”
