Shame in the Bundesliga! The match had to be abandoned after the referee was hit by a cup

Friday’s Bundesliga preview match between Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach was not played. The match had to be abandoned after the assistant referee was hit by a cup from the stands.
This is a major embarrassment for the entire Bundesliga. The league match between Bochum and Mönchengladbach had to be stopped prematurely in the 70th minute after the assistant referee was hit by a cup thrown from the stands.
The cup hit the substitute Gittelmann in the back of the head. Shortly afterwards, he dropped the cup and knelt down in disorientation. He then headed for the locker room with the other officials.
Immediately after the incident, the home Bochum players went to sort out the situation with the fans, who in no way spared their supporters. Goalkeeper Manuel Riemann was the most active and gave the offenders a good shout.
In the dressing room, it was then decided to end the match early. The substitute referee was unable to continue, and the incident was so serious that further continuation of the match was out of the question.
“It is a terrible shame that we can play in front of 25,000 spectators again and the match has no sporting end. It is unacceptable and we must apologise for the incident in every way,” said Bochum sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.
At the time of the incident, the visitors from Mönchengladbach were leading 2:0. The home fans were probably venting their frustration at the poor development of the match, but in an unacceptable way.
