Shame! Bayern get a penalty and are out of the cup, with a star next to a star in the line-up

A great day for Borussia Mönchengladbach, but shamefully 27 October 2021 will go down in Bayern Munich history. The Bavarian giant tasted its own medicine in a German Cup match and has to swallow a crushing defeat.

This is not what anyone was counting on! In a cup match, Borussia Mönchengladbach welcomed a rampant Bayern Munich to their home ground. The Bavarian side went into the game as clear favourites. However, it did not confirm its role.

The odds at the bookmakers clearly spoke in Bayern’s favour. The lowest odds for a Mönchengladbach victory were at 7.

Bayern fell. Borussia beat them 5-0. What if the Bavarians underestimated the game and sent in the “B” team? No, they didn’t.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann sent the following eleven..: Neuer – Davies, Hernández, Upamecano, Paver – Kimmich, Goretzka – Sané, Müller, Gnabry – Lewandowski.

The match was in any case evenly matched. Bayern was not the worse team. There were equal chances on both sides, but Mönchengladbach’s efficiency was almost 100%.

In a way, it was to be expected. Borussia can take on Munich at home. In the previous three home games, they managed to beat Bayern twice and draw with them once.

However, the Mönchengladbach team has never inflicted a similar debacle on Germany’s best team. Their highest win over Bayern came in 2018, when they won 3-0 at the Allianz Arena.

For the whole of Germany, this result is a great celebration. Of course, Bayern’s elimination from the cup means that the chances for every team still competing in the DFB-Pokal have increased many times over.
