Sevilla will open the league season with a match against Rayo Vallecano. It will go into it as the clear favourite, having entertained at the end of last season, while Rayo are fresh promoted.
Sevilla have gone through a relatively tough preparation for the new season without a loss. After two wins against weaker teams (4: 0 against Coventry and 1: 0 against Las Palmas), it has played the best teams and drawn twice (2: 2 against PSG and 1: 1 against AS Roma).
Vallecano won once in a friendly (2:0 against Espanyol), drew (1:1 against Leganes) and lost (1:3 against Valladolid). Vallecano returns to La Liga thanks to a successful play-off run, which saw them finish sixth in the second Spanish league.
Sevilla will rely on the goals of Yusuf En-Nesyri, who was in high demand in the English Premier League during the summer. Lucas Ocampos should continue to be a mainstay, while summer signing Erik Lamela is also worth mentioning.
The newcomer has a goal-scoring right winger, Isi Palazón scored nine times and assisted four times last season. Portugal’s Bebé was a threat from the other side, scoring four goals and assisting on five.
Sevilla will miss Torres and De Jong, and the visitors will have to do without Nteka.
Against Rayo, Sevilla have the best record of any team, beating them in fourteen out of seventeen games.
Vallecano knows how to open first league games on the opponent’s field, having never lost away to open the season (2-1-0).
