The European and European Conference playoffs begin on Thursday. In the former, Spain’s Sevilla will take on PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Sevilla are experiencing their worst season in recent years, they are only 12th in the table, only four points away from the relegation zone. They have won two of their last four games, their form has gone up a bit after the Qatar championship.
PSV Eindhoven are ideally prepared for their return to Europe, having taken seven points from the last three rounds of the Eredivisie with a draw and two wins. Despite being fourth in the table, they are only four points behind first-placed Feyenoord in the standings.
Sevilla’s key figures
The home side will need to lean on striker Youssef En-Nesyri, the Moroccan international has already netted nine goals. Croatian football icon Ivan Rakitic is still a stable member of the line-up, with two goals and three assists.
PSV’s key figures
Nineteen-year-old offensive all-rounder Xavi Simons, author of 13 goals and six assists, shines on the away side. His midfield and Dutch national team teammate Guus Til has opened the net ten times and assisted three times.
What to expect and what to bet on?
Sevilla’s main problem is the defence. After the departures of Diego Carlos and Jules Kound, they have already conceded 29 goals, the seventh worst total in La Liga. They have scored twice or more in two of their last four games.
And it will be a real test against PSV. With 55 shots, the Dutch side has the second best attack in the league (average 2.6 goals per round), and in the last four games they have averaged 3.3 goals per game.
Considering Sevilla’s defensive woes, its league worries, PSV’s rampant attack and the general discomfort of the home team, I think the Dutch side will not lose on Spanish soil.
