In the third match of Champions League Group B, the two original favourites to qualify will face each other, but they started the group a bit behind expectations. How will the clash between Sevilla and Arsenal turn out?
Sevilla have not started the season well at all. They are well behind expectations in La Liga and are only in the second half of the table, which led to the sacking of coach José Luis Mendilibar, who led Sevilla to victory in the Europa League back in May.
It is not much better in the Champions League either. Sevilla drew with Lens 1-1 at home and then took home a draw from PSV. After a very dramatic ending, when the home side equalised at 1:1 in the 86th minute, the Andalusians took the lead again a minute later, but the home side equalised at 2:2 in the 95th minute.
The two points with the relegation rivals made things difficult for Sevilla. Especially when Lens beat Arsenal at home.
The Gunners first shot PSV 4:0 at home without much trouble, but then fell in France. In the 14th minute they went ahead, but the home side turned the score around with two goals.
Arsenal are much better off than Sevilla in the league with the same number of points as Manchester City, but Tottenham can still overtake them.
The last match between Arsenal and Sevilla was quite clear-cut, with the Gunners beating Sevilla 6-0 in July 2022. However, that was a pre-season Emirates Cup friendly.
Arsenal absolutely must win, as they are considered the clear favourites to qualify in this group and any mere three points after three games would be a major disappointment. Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s charges should win at the Ramón Sanchéz Pizjuán.
