Settling old accounts? Pereira got an unexpected challenger, but he was finally challenged by Jiri Prochazka!!!
Jiri Prochazka didn’t delay too long after losing his title fight and took the difficult situation in the UFC welterweight division into his own hands. Through his social media, he has challenged an interesting opponent who has rolled up on him in the past.
Jiri Prochazka didn’t delay too long after losing his title fight and took the difficult situation in the UFC light heavyweight division into his own hands. Through his social media, he has challenged an interesting opponent who has rolled up on him in the past.
He challenged a division champion from a higher weight class than the one he was competing in. But instead of getting a response from him, he got a challenge he probably wasn’t expecting. Will he accept it to live up to his earlier words?
At the last numbered gala of UFC 295 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the situation in the UFC’s light heavyweight division became clear after a cursed year. Unfortunately not for Jiri Prochazka, who was left without an opponent in sight after his title loss.
Although he declared that he wanted to return to the cage as soon as possible, most of the fighters at the top of the division already had their fight scheduled for the next few months. The prospects for the Czech samurai were thus less than ideal. But the events of yesterday took an interesting turn.
Khamzat Chimaev posted a public challenge to the Pereira champion on his social media and tagged the person of the organization’s president Dana White. “Let me end it,” Chimaev wrote next to a photo of the Brazilian champion.
The response didn’t take long to come, but one that he probably didn’t expect. Instead of the Brazilian, it was Jiri Prochazka who answered him, taking the unflattering situation in the division firmly into his own hands.
“I’ll be happy to welcome you at light heavyweight,“ Procházka replied to the cheeky Chechen. How realistic is the potential fight?
The truth is that Chimaev currently fights at middleweight, and has even fought at welterweight within the UFC. However, in terms of physical disposition, he can definitely measure up to the light heavyweight. Moreover, he himself is currently without an opponent after his victorious fight with Kamaru Usman at UFC 294.
Also, the promo would practically do itself. Chimaev has taken several pointed shots at the Czech fighter in the past, referring to a long-ago sparring session in which he allegedly defeated Prochazka. A sharp fight would certainly be a different story though. Will we see old scores settled?
