Sergio Busquets not only led his team in yesterday’s win at the Santiago Bernabéu, but even broke historical records.
Last night at the Santiago Bernabéu belonged to Barcelona. The Catalan side put in a team performance in the first semi-final of the Copa del Rey to earn the closest possible 0-1 win.
They are in a solid position to qualify for the final before the return leg at Camp Nou in a month’s time.
One of the heroes of yesterday’s duel was the Catalan midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is at home in El Clásico matches.
Not only did his performance help Barcelona to their second Santiago Bernabéu stadium robbery this season, but he also tore some interesting records.
By rejoining the team of his former midfield partner, coach Xavi, the 34-year-old midfielder made his 46th El Clásico start. This took him away from the pair of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, who have played one less game in these encounters.
Given that the two teams will still clash in the aforementioned Cup rematch and in a league match before the end of the season, the Barcelona midfield stalwart will certainly have the opportunity to increase his record to number 48.
But that wasn’t the only milestone the star veteran reached. Yesterday’s result already marked his 22nd win in El Clásico matches, overtaking the record held by the legendary Madrid big club winger Paco Gento, who reached 21 victories.
Considering his age, this is certainly an incredible feat. He has overtaken all those legendary footballers who have fought in the history of the biggest club game in the world.
