Sergio Busquets has made Barcelona history. He played the third most games for the club
He won the European and World Championships with Spain. With Barcelona, he has won the Champions League three times, the UEFA Super Cup three times and the Club World Cup twice. He joined the Catalan club at the age of 17 and since the 2008/09 season he has been a member of the ‘A’ team, with whom he has won the top Spanish competition eight times. Sergio Busquets has now reached another milestone.

Sergio Busquets made his 675th start for the Blaguranas in Barcelona’s match against Real Sociedad on Thursday. This is an exceptional milestone.
This number means that he has surpassed Andrés Iniesta in the club standings and has entered the top 3 players with the most games played for Barcelona.
There are only two other legends ahead of Busquets. His current coach and former teammate Xavi with 767 games and Argentine magician Lionel Messi with 778 games.
The Sabadell native has football genes. His father, Carles, was also a Barcelona player in the 1990s, but unlike his son, he was a goalkeeper and cannot boast such a successful playing career. He later coached goalkeepers at the club.
Sergio Busquets went through the youth teams of Badia, Barberà Andalucía, Lleida and Jàbac Terrassa, from where Barcelona chose him as a talented player. For three years he played for them in the youth categories, but from the summer of 2008 until now he has been a stable member of the ‘A’ team.
Don’t look for his name at the top of the productivity statistics. He has scored 17 goals for the Catalans in almost fourteen years and has scored twice in 133 games for the Spanish national team. Scoring goals is simply not one of the main tasks of the thirty-three-year-old footballer.
He plays as a defensive midfielder and in this position he has long been one of the best on the planet. His duties on the pitch include playing at the back, controlling the combination with calm passing or taking the ball away from the opponents.
In short, he’s been on the pitch since he was a “black job”. And we certainly don’t mention this characteristic with any racist connotation.
With a total of 34 trophies won in the senior category, Sergio Busquets is one of the most successful Spanish footballers. Despite Barcelona’s current not-so-successful period, he is still loyal to the Catalan club. Also thanks to this, he became the captain of the Blaugranas before this season after Messi’s departure to PSG.
Let’s see how long the player with the number 5 on his jersey can stay at the highest level. And it also remains a question whether he can at least come close to the two legends at the top of the historical list of games played for Barcelona.
