Without a doubt, he ranks alongside Shearer, Cole, Rooney, Giggs and many other of the greatest legends of English Premier League history. The legendary Sergio Agüero was unfortunately forced to end his professional football career due to diagnosed health problems. Let’s recap the tenure of arguably the most outstanding footballer in the British Isles over the last decade.

Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo, as the Argentine sharpshooter’s full name goes, started his football career at Independiente in Argentina, where he broke the record of his then future father-in-law Diego Maradona at the age of 15. At the age of fifteen years and thirty-five days, he became the youngest ever player in the history of the Argentine league.

Kun Agüero made the move to Europe at the age of eighteen, when he was bought by Atlético Madrid for the hefty sum of €23 million as a big prospect. He managed to score 100 goals across all competitions in five seasons, even winning the Europa League in 2009/10 and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010.

He impressed the top clubs with his performances and in 2011 he moved to Manchester City for around €40 million. Over time, Agüero has become something of a standout and the main face of City’s expansion into the highest levels of British and European football.

He scored an impressive 260 goals across all competitions during his decade-long involvement in Manchester. In the Premier League, he has 184 goals to his name and has gone on to finish fourth overall in the historic goalscorers table.

According to statistics, he is not only the best South American striker, but the most successful forward ever to come from outside the British Isles. And that’s not the only primacy of his career, he has the best time on goal (108 minutes), has scored the most goals in a single game (5), has scored the most hat-tricks (12), has won the most player of the month awards (7) and has the most league goals for a single club (184).

Last but not least, Agüero has won the league title five times with City, the League Cup six times, the FA Cup once and the English Super Cup three times. He won twice with Argentina at the U20 World Cup or the 2008 Olympic Games. In the senior national team, he has silver from the 2014 World Cup or Copa América 2015 and 2016, and gold from Copa América 2021.
