The season is barely over and big things are already happening in the NHL. The New York Rangers have announced the arrival of a new coach, the Ottawa Senators have a new owner – Michael Andlauer. It is certain that the much mentioned Ryan Reynolds will not buy the team from the Canadian capital.

According to reports from overseas, Michael Andlauer is to become the new owner of the Ottawa Senators. The French native has been in the Canadian transportation industry for 35 years. His journey began in 1991 when he created a company (ATS Healthcare) that eventually became renowned in the logistics and transportation industry.

He then founded another company, now known as Accuristix, further cementing his place in the logistics industry. However, Andlauer’s entrepreneurial activities also extend to the healthcare sector and he is said to be an avid hockey enthusiast.

In 2003, he became co-owner of the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), later becoming sole owner. Since 2009, he has been a minority owner of the Montreal Canadiens, a rival of Ottawa.

But of course, he will have to give that up soon. Ottawa announced the new owner in a press release. According to this information, Andlauer will buy a 90% stake in the team.

“Subject to the approval of the National Hockey League and the completion of the sale process, Andlauer will assume control of the organization’s operations,” the Senators said, as quoted by CBC.

“My family and I are very excited to be a part of the Ottawa Senators hockey club. The Senators fan base is one of the most passionate in the league. I’m excited to take the club’s success on and off the ice to the next level. The short and long-term future of the team is incredibly bright and I look forward to getting to know the team, the fan base and the community, ” said the new owner.

Nearly one billion for Ottawa

The Senators Sports & Entertainment board of directors began the process of selling the team last November following the death of owner Eugene Melnyk in March 2022. Melnyk, who bought the team and Canadian Tire Centre in 2003 for $130 million, left the franchise to his daughters, Anna and Olivia.

The sisters would retain a 10 per cent stake in the Ottawa Senators. Andlauer and his investment group will pay nearly one billion dollars for the club.
