The feast of European football wrote its first act on Friday night. The home side Germany made it unexpectedly easy for the Scots. Florian Wirtz started the convincing 5:1 victory in the 10th minute. The Leverkusen star was followed nine minutes later by Jamal Musiala.
Just like Wirtz, the still only 21-year-old Bayern winger took advantage of his teammate Havertz’s great work and, after being tackled, shot through everything in his way. Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn had no chance.
“This comfortable win is a good sign for our whole team. We have gained confidence which we will take into the next game. Personally, I’m quite happy with the game. But there are definitely things we can improve,” Musial’s post-match words are quoted by uefa. com.
The game was orchestrated by Kroos, who is retiring
The Bayern star, who thus started against the Scots on home soil, often benefited from the play of his experienced teammate Toni Kroos during the duel. The 34-year-old Real Madrid midfielder orchestrated the game brilliantly. It is a shame that he has announced the end of his career.
“Toni is a very important player for our game. We need to get him into the game just like İlkay Gündogan. I have a lot of respect for what he has achieved in his career and it is an honour to play with him,” Musiala added on Kroos.
“There is a lot of diversity in our attack, which I really like. Plus, we all get along very well. During the championship, our connection with each other will grow. We are working on it every day,” Musiala added in the interview, which was then followed up by Havertz, Füllkrug and Can.
The Germans were also in a good mood for a fourth title thanks to the exclusion of Scot Porteous. Rüdiger’s own goal only cosmetically adjusted the result. In the next phase of their Group A, they will face Hungary on Wednesday and finally Switzerland (Sunday 23 June).
