Friday’s free practice sessions kicked off the race weekend in Saudi Arabia at the circuit in Jeddah. And it was in FP2 that Charles Leclerc brutally demolished his Ferrari. You can see his accident for yourself in this article. However, the team’s mechanics have a very tough job ahead of them.
Turn 22 was the “fatal corner” for Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari. He lost control of his car on the approach to this corner and crashed hard into the tech barrier.
The accident took place less than three minutes before the end of the second free practice session and, of course, red flags were immediately waved on the circuit. FP2 was subsequently terminated early.
It should be noted, Ferrari has had some difficulty with corner stabilisation all season. After that, all it takes is for a driver to be too aggressive going into a corner and it can end up like this.
Judging by the condition of the car, mechanics can be expected to work on Leclerc’s monopost all night to get the car fixed in time for Saturday’s final practice session. At the moment, Ferrari can only hope that the engine was not significantly damaged by such a hard impact.
The medical car immediately took him to the medical centre, where Leclerc is currently undergoing a precautionary check-up.
According to the current information, the Ferrari driver should fortunately be fine. It should be noted, although we don’t want to bring it up at all, the walls are dangerously close at the Jeddah circuit and it’s possible that this won’t be the only accident we’ll see during the race weekend.
In any case, Lewis Hamilton dominated both opening practice sessions, with the Ferrari drivers finishing sixth and seventh in FP1, Carlos Sainz finishing seventh in Friday’s second session and Leclerc ending his stint in the number 10 position.
