Sebastien Haller has joined Borussia Dortmund. The Ivory Coast striker says he did not come to Borussia Dortmund as a successor to Erling Haaland. But he wants to repay the trust BVB bosses have placed in him.
Borussia Dortmund signed Sebastien Haller earlier this month for a transfer fee of €31 million plus bonuses. The former Eintracht Frankfurt and Ajax striker replaces Erling Haaland, who has moved to Manchester City. Haller does not want to become just a replacement for the Norwegian striker.
In an interview during Borussia’s preseason camp on Sunday, Haller said. I came to BVB because they need my quality. I will do everything I can to meet their expectations and give them back the trust they put in me.”
The 27-year-old also commented on Robert Lewandowski’s departure from Bayern Munich. He is not complaining about his departure, but is focused on himself and wants to lead Borussia Dortmund to their dream title.
After this transfer, Haller and Schick have become the biggest favourites to win the Bundesliga top scorer trophy.
“I’m certainly not complaining about Lewandowski’s departure. I don’t think any striker in the league would complain. But I can’t rely on the weaknesses of others to win me anything. I have to earn it myself. The most important thing for me is to concentrate on myself and score as many goals as possible.”
Haller scored 34 goals in 42 games for Ajax last season, including 11 in the Champions League. But Borussia Dortmund will surely be hoping Haller will score goal after goal like his predecessor.
