Schick: West Ham? We’re not thinking about that, we’re aiming higher. I’ll keep an eye on the Jack scenario
Patrik Schick is having a dream year. After a great Euro, he followed up his performance in Leverkusen, where he scored 16 goals. It’s not for nothing that there is so much speculation about a transfer to a more famous team.
Patrik Schick is having a dream year. After a great Euro, he followed up his performance in Leverkusen, where he scored 16 goals. It’s not for nothing that there is so much speculation about a transfer to a more famous team.
Five goals at this summer’s Euros and especially a wonderful goal from midfield against Scotland shot Patrik Schick into the limelight of football Europe. More important than the successful tournament, however, is the fact that the Czech international has followed up the Euros with a club season.
In 14 Bundesliga games he scored 16 goals and added 1 assist. He is now the second top scorer in the German league, overtaking Robert Lewandowski, who has 19 goals.
At the moment, he’s gradually rising to the top. He’s 25 years old, he’s had an amazing six months, he’s matured footballingly and he’s ready for a move to a big club.
Speculation about West Ham’s interest leaves him quiet. Schick has much bigger ambitions.
“My manager and I are definitely not thinking about that. We’re aiming higher. Moreover, West Ham would not be for me at the moment because of the composition of the team and the style of play,” Schick told sport.cz
Before Christmas, there was much speculation about the interest of PSG, which boasts the attacking trio of Neymar – Mbappé – Messi. But Mbappé is believed to be on his way out to Real Madrid and the Parisian giant will be looking for a replacement.
“Something has come to me, but I’m not dealing with it. As I said, there is a lot of speculation in every transfer window, so I prefer to concentrate on continuing in the Bundesliga and the goals I want to keep scoring,” said the national striker.
He also wants to avoid the mistake he made when he moved to AS Roma. That was to go to a team where there is already one star striker. So Schick had to play from the wing or come onto the pitch from the bench, which was definitely not ideal for his development.
“Now I’m in a completely different place than when I transferred to AS Rome. I was twenty-one at the time, and it was actually my first taste of world-class football. The experience in Rome took me further, so I would have a completely different attitude now,” Schick knows for sure.
