Schick the third worst penalty taker in the top five leagues. Only two from the Premier League are worse
For Patrik Schick, 2022, or at least the first half of it, did not go as expected. The national team striker struggled not only in terms of his health, but also when it came to taking penalty kicks.
For Patrik Schick, 2022, or at least the first half of it, did not go as expected. The national team striker struggled not only in terms of his health, but also when it came to taking penalty kicks.
Wilfried Zaha was the worst performer of the year in terms of missed attempts with four failures. The Ivory Coast international converted only three of his seven penalties, failing against Leicester, Norwich, Nottingham and Aston Villa.
Riyad Mahrez also has four failures, but he has made no mistakes on seven other occasions. Still, Cititzens fans don’t like to see him take a penalty. Last year, each of his failures from the penalty spot meant a loss of points.
Patrik Schick didn’t celebrate once out of three attempts. Last season he failed to beat Yann Sommer, then he failed in the Nations League against the Portuguese and in October he failed to beat Porto’s Diogo Costa in a Champions League match.
Schick missed his first competitive penalty in his illustrious career. His failure to qualify for the U19 European Championships in May 2014 was an embarrassing 0-2 loss to Bulgaria.
Since then, he hasn’t made a mistake until last year. He converted two penalties for the U21 national team, two for the senior team and one in a Leverkusen jersey. The most important one was undoubtedly the one to Croatia at the last Euro.
Schick is now nursing his injury and hopes for a quick return to match practice. His compatriot Adam Hložek is getting into good form and together they could form a cohesive tandem that could threaten on the national stage.
