Leverkusen have been in a lot of trouble in recent weeks. Due to several losses, they will have a lot of work to do before the end of the season to keep their Champions League position. On Saturday, they got the mandatory three points, with Patrik Schick contributing a goal in the win over Fürth.
Bayer Leverkusen were third until recently and looked set to battle with Borussia Dortmund for second position. But this is not the case. Instead, several unnecessary losses have come and the club will have to fight for the top four.
RB Leipzig replaced them in third place, while Leverkusen were fourth before Saturday’s games. Leipzig, however, fell short to Union Berlin and are one point behind Bayer, who beat Fürth. Three points behind Leverkusen in fifth place is Freiburg, a modest but ambitious club.
Leverkusen’s Czech striker Patrik Schick was in the starting line-up against Fürth. However, the home side started the match better, with Jetro Willems scoring in the 5th minute.
Three minutes later, however, it was Schick who levelled the match at 1-1 when he curiously scored after an opponent player inadvertently sent the ball towards him.
The Czech goal scorer did not add any more goals. However, he scored his 21st goal of the season, which counts. He scored for the first time since returning from injury, his last goal coming in February.
In December, Schick downed Fürth with four goals. Now he shared the goals with his teammates and helped them to a 4-1 win.
