Thursday’s defeat to Ferencváros in the Europa League didn’t bother Leverkusen that much, but the weekend’s game against Frankfurt hurt a bit more.
Bayer want to return to the Champions League, so they need to get points regularly. Especially if they are leading the match 2:0. But Frankfurt beat them after an excellent second half 5: 2, both goals scored by Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick.
And Schick continued his great scoring form on Wednesday against Hoffenheim. In the 37th minute, Moussa Diaby crossed the ball into the hexagon and the Czech striker was lucky to get the ball past the opposing goalkeeper.
Leverkusen’s second goal was scored in the 63rd minute. Piero Hincapie sent a great centre into his penalty area, with Schick heading it into the net in a difficult position from the penalty spot.
However, Schick’s teammates broke down again at the end of the match, with Angelo Stiller reducing the score in the 80th minute and Munas Dabbur equalizing at 2-2 in the 83rd minute.
Schick has already scored 8 goals in the last three games, leaving Erling Haaland behind him in the Bundesliga scorers’ table with a three-goal lead, but he is 2 goals behind Robert Lewandowski.
