Sunday’s Bundesliga schedule promised a very expected and attractive match. Bayern Munich traveled to a match in the great Leverkusen. The favourite was obvious, but nobody expected the destruction that the Bavarians showed.
Bayern Munich went into the game against Bayer Leverkusen as the favourites, but nobody expected them to be done after the first half.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the fourth minute with his goal. Thereafter, it was quiet until the 30th minute before Bayern began their utter annihilation.
Within seven minutes, the Bavarian giant scored four more goals. Lewandowski, Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry scored twice.
At half-time, the scoreboard showed a shocking 0:5 in Bayern’s favour. And it could have been worse. The visitors threw away several interesting chances. They showed incredible dominance.
Moreover, Bayern were completely wiped out by Patrik Schick, who had only 8 passes after 45 minutes. Manuel Neuer had more than that.
Leverkusen entered the second act a little better. Neuer had to make one great save, but capitulated in the 55th minute when Schick, who was almost erased in the first half, broke through after a great pass from Florian Wirtz.
However, the game settled down after the home side’s goal. Bayern had nowhere to rush and didn’t want to let Bayer dramatize the match. So the visitors tried to keep the match under control, which they more or less succeeded in doing.
Munich were able to create some interesting chances, but all the scorers failed to aim.
In the 79th minute, it was clear that the Czech striker would not score another goal as he was replaced by Lucas Alario. But he didn’t help change the score either.
If anyone in a Leverkusen jersey deserves praise, it was clearly the fans. They supported their charges throughout the match despite the very unfavourable situation and showed the reason why one should go to Germany for the atmosphere.
Bayern therefore took a well-deserved three points to Munich after an absolutely dominant performance. Dortmund are only a point behind, with Leverkusen three points behind the leaders after the clash.
