Schick on Hložek: He’s unlucky that he came at a time when we are not doing well. Last season he would have jumped on the bandwagon

It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen Patrik Schick in a national jersey. Now he is back and his goal is to keep the elite group of the Nations League. The Czech national team will face strong teams from Portugal and Switzerland. In the interview, Schick talked not only about the national team, but also about his Leverkusen teammate Adam Hložek.
Patrik Schick did not appear at the last national team meetings due to injury. But now he is back after less than a year and his goal is clear. The Czechs would like to stay in the elite group of the Nations League, which will give them a chance for the first basket in the qualifying draw for the next European Championship.
The lead over fourth-placed Switzerland is just one point, as they managed to beat Portugal in their last game. So everything is wide open. It will most likely be decided in the last game.
And Schick may well be one of the important factors. But he can’t be happy at the moment, because his Leverkusen are not doing well at all.
“We’re not playing that badly, but we’re not converting chances and we’re conceding a lot of goals from standard chances. That brings us down a lot, they are cheap goals. The current state of affairs is a big slap in the face for us, absolutely nobody at the club expected it.
It’s a new situation for us, we have young guys in the team who are experiencing this for the first time. We’re almost at the bottom of the table, it’s a new challenge. I believe we will kick on soon, ideally after the national break. Hopefully, it will help us all and we’ll get off to a good start. We will try to chase and save our position a little bit,” he said in an interview with iSport.
Along with Schick, Adam Hložek, who joined the team from Sparta Prague in the summer, is also in the team. He entered the statistics in a cup match, but his team was eliminated. After that he did not score again and now he is on the borderline of the base and the bench.
“Hložan is a bit unlucky that he came at a time when we are not doing well. Last season, if he had jumped on the bandwagon that was working, he would have had a much easier time. I’m convinced he would have broken through then with a goal or a pass. The whole team is struggling, it’s very hard for him as a new player.
He’s showing everyone in training and in some phases of games that he definitely has potential. Everyone at the club knows that, but everything is new for him, nothing is easy. He needs time to come together as a whole team to pick up and start playing what we are meant to play,” he added.
