Schick is not the first. Check out five more great goals from the middle of the park
Patrik Schick’s second goal on Monday went around Europe. Many are prematurely describing his goal as the best goal of the European Championship, while others mention Andriy Yarmolenko’s goal. Several similar goals have fallen in the past, here is a selection of five of them.

Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani’s awesome goal is even from this calendar year. Manchester United had already finished the season and were focused on fighting in the Europa League. However, Cavani has had a good season and the shot against Fulham only confirms that. True, it wasn’t quite from halfway, but it still ranks among the greatest goals from distance in league history.
Xabi Alonso
While Cavani’s goal wasn’t from halfway, Xabi Alonso tapped the ball in against Newcastle a few yards before the halfway line. He was helped a lot by a slip by the goalkeeper, who would have probably cleared the ball otherwise.
David Beckham
Back to the 20th century, more precisely to the 1996/97 season. David Beckham hit the net from the centre line for Wimbledon, who were playing in the middle of the Premier League table. He secured a win that was crucial in the final (Manchester United won the league by two points).
Wayne Rooney
And it was Beckham who was in the stands watching when his successor Wayne Rooney scored from a similar spot. He let the ball bounce and then sent it arcing behind the back of the Aston Villa goalkeeper.
Charlie Adams
Although Stoke didn’t win the 2015 game against Chelsea, fans of this traditional club fondly remember it. Charlie Adams’ left-footed shot from his own half of the pitch taunted Thibaut Courtois. For the record, Petr Cech was sitting on the Blues bench.
