Patrik Schick is back on the pitch after injury and last weekend he managed to score after two months. The national striker spoke about his health condition, but also about his fight for the second place in the scorers’ table.
Twenty-six-year-old Patrik Schick shone in the autumn at Leverkusen, scoring goal after goal. He continued his performances at the start of the year, but unfortunately got injured against Mainz in February.
He spent a month and a half recovering and then returned to the game at the beginning of April. He played his first matches rather sporadically, but now he is back in the starting line-up.
However, he is still limited by pain, which he intends to address after the season. “Unfortunately, my achilles and groin have been hurting for a long time, and the pain is getting worse as the games go on. There is also little time to rest between games. We will see how it will be after the season.
I need to finish it and then address these issues to be in the best possible health condition ready for next season,” Schick said in an interview with Goal.
He was also able to make his mark against Fürth and remains one of the Bundesliga’s top scorers. He won’t be able to keep the first place, he is 12 goals behind Robert Lewandowski, but he could keep the second place.
“I’d like to keep the second place among the cannonballers, especially since I’ve been there for so long. I have a three-goal lead, I hope to add some more goals in the remaining three rounds,” he added.
Haaland (18), Nkunku and Modeste (both 17) are now breathing down his neck. Leverkusen are now in third place and are close to playing the Champions League group stage next season.
