Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek were a bit uncertain about who will lead them next season. Xabi Alonso has been linked with a move to Tottenham or a possible return to Real Madrid. However, nothing like that is going to happen. At least that’s what the club boss says. He also confirmed the staying of the jewel.

Leverkusen have had a very controversial season. The start has not gone well at all and it seemed that instead of confirming their ambition to fight for the top three, the club would primarily strive to stay among the German elite.

However, a good move was made in time. Gerardo Seoane left the team and the Spanish legend’s first stint in senior football awaited him when Xabi Alonso took over Bayer. He managed to not only save the traditional team, but also to qualify for the Conference League.

He not only accomplished the rescue mission, but even surpassed it. This is despite the fact that Patrik Schick, one of the main offensive weapons, was out for a large part of the season due to injury and Adam Hložek, a great hope, is still getting used to the higher level.

In addition, German gem Florian Wirtz returned after a long layoff and it was unclear in what form he would return and when he would resume his pre-injury performance. All the more credit to Alonso. His work has been noticed by bigger clubs.

There was talk of interest from Tottenham or a return to Real Madrid. But neither team will get Alonso. Carlo Ancelotti will probably stay at Madrid, Spurs are still looking.

And what will happen to Alonso? Nothing, he’ll stay at Leverkusen. Club boss Fernando Carro confirmed this in an interview with Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger: “He will continue here. He is good for us, we are good for him.”

And the same is the case with the aforementioned Wirtz. He is under contract at Leverkusen until 2027 and wants to win a place in the German national team for the home Euro 2024, so he doesn’t want to risk not playing for another team.

Wirtz, however, has been outstanding since his return. Considering that the 20-year-old hasn’t played for three quarters of a year, a record of 4 goals and 8 assists in 25 competitive matches seems to be an outstanding achievement. Moreover, he hasn’t lost any of his overview and technique.
