Leverkusen’s league position is still looking bleak after last weekend. The debacle at Bayern Munich means that the team with Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek in the squad is in penultimate place.
The German side wants to find a way out of the crisis in the Champions League. Especially after they beat Atlético Madrid 2-0 at home in mid-September. The opponent was Porto.
And the start did not look hopeless. But Callum Hodson-Odoi’s goal was disallowed for offside. Porto’s goal was also disallowed because of a hand. Then, at the end of the first half, Bayer were awarded a penalty kick.
The penalty was taken by Schick, one of the most important players in the team. But the Czech star is not doing well in the new season. The national team meeting confirmed it. He scored a goal in the Swiss net, but against Portugal he gave away a penalty.
And he didn’t manage a penalty this time either. It was his first big opportunity to score in the Champions League, but his attempt was caught by goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Unfortunately, it cannot be said that the Czech striker kicked the penalty perfectly.
