On Tuesday, the Bundesliga is on the agenda, specifically the match between Schalke and Leipzig. The home team needs to at least pull away from last place, while the visitors are looking to return to second place. What to expect from the match?
Schalke’s winter preparation and the start of spring have not been successful. After a draw with Zurich and losses to Nuremberg and Werder Bremen, they entered the league with a disgraceful 0:3 defeat to Frankfurt. They are last in the table, six points away from both the barrier and direct rescue.
Leipzig, on the other hand, managed to win their only preliminary match, beating Mlada Boleslav 4:0 and drawing 1:1 with Bayern Munich in their league debut. They are fifth in the table, but only a point behind second-placed Frankfurt.
Schalke’s key figures
Simon Teroddet is firing on the home side, the experienced 34-year-old striker has scored three times so far. German left winger Marius Bülter also has three accurate shots, while five-goal scorer Dominick Drexler is injured.
Leipzig’s key figures
The visitors are hoping to get Timo Werner going again, the German international has scored nine goals and assisted four times. The defence is anchored by Qatar World Cup star Joschko Guardiola, with David Raum also a mainstay.
Schalke are struggling in attack, which has been accentuated by the loss of the injured Drexler. the 13 goals scored are the fewest in the competition, and in the last 12 games the traditional German side has scored only six times and conceded seven.
On the other hand, Leipzig’s offense is working. the 31 goals scored are the most in the competition after Bayern and Frankfurt, and the fact that Leipzig have struck more than once in 11 of their last 12 games is awe-inspiring.
Considering Leipzig’s form, their draw with a strong Bayern last week and Schalke’s defensive and offensive woes, I think the favourite will confirm its role and can win.
