Twenty-six-year-old Majchrzak has had a breakthrough season. In it he managed to get into the elite hundred of the ATP world ranking.
He last managed to win his first trophy of the year at the end of October at the Busan Challenger in Korea.
The semi-finalist of the ATP tournament in Pune was already slowly preparing for the new season. Suddenly, however, he got some very unexpected news, he tested positive for doping.
The player himself commented on the whole situation on his social media.
“I am forced to share with you some very difficult and devastating information for me,” Majchrzak started his message, adding that he tested positive for doping in November and October 2022.
“I strongly stress that I have never knowingly taken any banned substances,” the Polish player continued. “A positive result is a huge shock for me, especially when I don’t know how the substance got into my body.”
The Pole was due to take part in January’s United Cup, which starts on December 29 and ends on January 8. Majchrzak was then scheduled to participate as a seed in the first round of the Australian Open, which begins Jan. 16.
“I have begun the hardest fight of my life – the fight to prove my innocence and return to the sport I love,” the 26-year-old concluded his message.
The ATP organization has not yet commented on the situation, nor has it released information about the banned substance that was found in Majchrzak’s body. However, the 77th player of the world ranking will certainly not miss the start of the season.
