Scandal? He has a major role in the Juventus case, four years ago he said he hated it and roots for Napoli: Thieves don’t belong on the pitch
Juventus have already been punished with a 15-point deduction and it may not be over. However, there is now a different issue in Italy. The main prosecutor in the whole case has made a statement in the past that now casts great doubt on his objectivity.
Juventus have already been punished with a 15-point deduction and it may not be over. However, there is now a different issue in Italy. The main prosecutor in the whole case has made a statement in the past that now casts great doubt on his objectivity.
In Italy, almost nothing has been discussed in the last month as much as the Juventus case. In fact, the Turin club was punished with a deduction of 15 points due to the fact that the club’s management illegally took commissions from transfers and reported false profits to investors between 2018 and 2020.
The officials involved in the case also received varying lengths of punishment in the form of bans from football. For example, Pavel Nedved was suspended for eight months. But that’s not all.
Juventus is facing another case over the controversial payment of wages during the coronavirus pandemic, when players were not paid several months’ wages without their consent. Prosecutors of the Italian federation (FIGC) reportedly want to deduct at least 20 points from the club.
The trial is due to take place in March. But this now has a big catch. Because one of the three prosecutors has let his mouth drop in 2019 and his statements have started to appear in all Italian and slowly already in the world media.
That man is Ciro Santoriello. And what did he actually say? “I admit it. I’m a big Napoli fan and I hate Juventus. Napoli is important to me as a fan, I am anti-Juventus. Thieves have no business on the pitch,” Sky Italia quotes him as saying.
These words have understandably caused great concern, especially among Juventus fans. Even Lapo Elkann, the man who is being talked about as the potential new head of the club, had his say.
“Unfortunately, justice is not the same for everyone. But the sun will rise soon. We must have faith, stay united and strong. Forza Juve,” Elkann tweeted, adding that the Turin outfit needs its fans now more than ever.
