Danish rising tennis star Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune made a big splash. During his match at the Italian Challenger he indiscriminately attacked his opponent, calling him a faggot.
Danish tennis player Rune took on Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the semi-finals of the challenger in Biella, Italy. Although he defeated his opponent and advanced to the final, the 18-year-old Dane did not handle the match emotionally.
During this semi-final duel, Rune insulted his opponent Etcheverry with some indiscriminate language, which was picked up by the microphones on the court.
“You’re a cunt player, you play like a faggot cunt! ” said Rune in Danish to his opponent.
And that wasn’t all. Shortly afterwards, Rune played a winning shot and made another remark about Etcheverry. “Come on, faggot!” yelled Rune, encouraged by the win.
The ATP, of course, immediately took issue with this behaviour and shortly afterwards issued a verdict. Rune was fined 1,500 euros.
Rune himself apologized to his opponent after the incident. “I am young and I still have a lot to learn. None of this gives me the right to say such stupid things. I have learned my lesson and I think people’s criticism is fair to me. I’ m really sorry and I hope people will accept my apology,” said Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune.
