Saturday’s EURO qualification results: Ukraine entertained, Slovenians close to promotion

On Friday, three teams secured direct qualification to Euro 2024 in Germany, while on Saturday none did. In any case, the Hungarian, Slovenian and Danish selections took a big step towards participation. What were the results?

In Group C, the home teams did well. And with Ukraine, we can really talk about a home atmosphere for the first time in a long time. A lot of fans living in the Czech Republic came to Letná in Prague. They watched the dominance and the 2:0 win.

The Ukrainians are equal on points with the Italians, who beat Malta 3: 0. England have three points more, while Ukraine have an extra game played compared to both rivals. Macedonia and Malta are out of the running for direct promotion.

The Hungarians managed a tough match against the Serbs in the Géco. They survived the initial pressure and eventually won 2-1 at home with a great shot from outside the box. In a clash of midgets, Lithuania surprised the Bulgarians thanks to a 50-minute power play.

In the table, the Hungarians are three points behind the Serbs and have a game to play. The Serbians are looking ahead to Tuesday’s home clash with Montenegro from second place.

The latter has two points less and one match to play. The winner is likely to advance. In Group H, the Danes and Slovenians are close to advancing.

The former beat the Kazakhs 3:1, while the latter scored three goals against the Finns (3:0). The Northern Irish beat San Marino 3: 0 in the match of the underdogs.

The Danes and the Slovenians remain tied on 16 points after two wins. Kazakhstan and Finland are also in the game, both down four points and already going to have a very tough time. Neither San Marino nor Northern Ireland will advance directly.
