Madridistas get ready, this will be your new home for decades to come. Real Madrid has decided to renovate its stadium and Santiago Bernabéu will soon be enveloped in a new look.
Alecaom, the 8k video expert, previously posted a drone video on his YouTube channel of what the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu currently looks like from a bird’s eye view. And it’s a sumptuous spectacle.
The stadium’s roof, which will be retractable, is practically finished on the sides, with only the centre to be finished. The outer façade has also been worked on and there’s not much left.
The video also shows a nice shot of Madrid’s Chamartín district, in which the majestic stadium is set, where 80 000 fans of the most successful football club in history regularly gather.
Since the drone video was taken, work has been done again on the stadium and the following video shows what still needs to be done.
It’s really just a few more pieces on the outer facade and the retractable roof. At the end of the construction behind the north goal, the blue tarpaulin will disappear, the seats will be reinstalled and the Real Madrid cauldron will return to its place.
And the full opening date? According to Josep Pedrerola of El Chirinquito, a close friend of club president Florentino Pérez, the inauguration should take place on 23 December 2023. But he also added that the stadium should already be 100% complete by October.
Until now, the Bernabéu has been iconic for its four towers that rise on the corners of the stadium. Although the new Bernabéu will lose those, Florentino Pérez is planning a spectacular super-modern stadium, which he has described as the best in the world.
In fact, the Nuevo Santiago Bernabéu is not just counting on Los Blancos games to make a living. Inside you will find, for example, a large department store with luxury clothing brands or a Michelin-starred restaurant.
In addition, the Chamartín area of Madrid will host NFL, NBA, tennis, concerts and esports competitions. All of this will be provided by the outdoor areas that are currently being installed.
This is what the overall project should look like when completed.
