The big return. That’s how you could describe the saga surrounding English super-talent Jadon Sancho. For it is believed that Manchester will be his home for the second time from the new season. This time, however, he won’t be heading to the Citizens camp, but to the red part of the English city.
United were keen to sign him a year ago and even then it seemed that they had reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund. However, the Westphalian club were not too keen to sell one of their very young mainstays and adamantly demanded €120 million.
This year, it has been considerably more benevolent. He started the negotiations with a figure of 100 million euros, currently it is supposed to be about five million less. In contrast, last season’s second-placed Premier League team are currently offering €85 million plus bonuses and other add-ons.
According to behind-the-scenes information, the final agreement is expected to be around 90 million euros (over 2.25 billion crowns). Sancho may well become the second most expensive footballer transferring to the Premier League.
Importantly, the player himself has already agreed to the terms the Red Devils have proposed and is keen on a move to Old Trafford. Thus, the negotiations are now only between the clubs and according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, both clubs are confident that they will reach an agreement this time already.
“BVB feel that an agreement is close. All parties involved in the negotiations are not panicking, on the contrary they are optimistic and convinced that an agreement will be reached in the next few days. Jadon Sancho has never been closer to a transfer to Manchester United,” Romano wrote on his Twitter account.
But even if an agreement is reached in the next few days, the transfer will almost certainly be completed with all the formalities after the ongoing European Championship, which the young winger is taking part in as an England international. However, the truth is that he has spent only 6 minutes on the pitch so far, and that was in the match against the Czech Republic.
But as much as Sancho hasn’t shone too much in the national team so far, his numbers from his time at Dortmund are simply incredible. Although he only celebrated his 21st birthday in March this year, he has managed to hit the ground running in four Bundesliga seasons, appearing in 104 games, scoring 38 goals and adding 51 assists on top of that.
It is no wonder that one of Europe’s biggest clubs is reaching for the Watford graduate, whose ambition is to attack the Premier League title again after many years.
“If we want to match Manchester City, we need to strengthen our squad,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said after the season. There is talk of Diogo Dalot returning, Kieran Trippier coming in and keeping Paul Pogba.
And with Jadon Sancho in the offensive line, the Red Devils sound even more devilish.
