San Jose snapped an unflattering streak of nine straight defeats and surprisingly beat Ottawa on home ice. Rookie Magnus Chroma was again in goal for the home team. Joonas Korpisalo was in goal for the Senators.
San Jose took the lead early in the game. After a power play by 22-year-old Thomas Bordeleau. He peeked into the lineup this season after two seasons in the AHL and scored his third career NHL goal in his eighth career start.
Ottawa responded midway through the second period with a power-play goal by Tim Stützle. He recorded his 15th point of the season and 58th point overall. Six minutes later, San Jose struck again on the power play, with Bordeleau scoring for the second time.
San Jose didn’t let the lead slip away from them and the important win took them away from the bottom of the NHL, where Chicago has now fallen.
David Pastrnak surpasses the 40-goal mark for the season
The Boston Bruins vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (5:1) was a one-sided affair for the home team. The struggling Penguins, who are in a huge slump, failed to respond to the Bruins’ offensive appetites and suffered their second debacle in a short period of time.
Both David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha scored in this game. Zacha has been in great form in recent games. Pastrňák put his team in the lead at the beginning of the second period when he became the fifth player this season to reach the 40-goal mark.
It was the fourth time in his career that he accomplished this feat. And from a Bruins club standpoint, he is only the fourth player in club history to do just that on four occasions.
Czech forward Zacha also scored three points in the game against the Penguins. He scored twice and had one assist. The Czech forward has scored five goals and added two assists in his last five games. With 43 points, he is now the fourth most productive Czech player this season.
