Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry met together at Barcelona, where they destroyed one opponent after another alongside Lionel Messi. In the opinion of many, they were the best football team in history, as evidenced by their treble win.

It was 27 May 2009 when Barcelona played Manchester United at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Catalan side was helped to a 2-0 victory by the duo of Eto’o and Messi. But Henry played the full 72 minutes with them.

Sir Alex Ferguson said after the game that he had never faced such a good team, which he considered the best in history. It was this match that influenced him two years later when the Red Devils faced Barcelona again. This time on home soil at Wembley.

This time, coach Pep Guardiola’s team did not have as much strength in attack, as the aforementioned pair was replaced by another, namely Pedro and David Villa with Messi. However, the remaining team was even more mature and the midfield of Xavi, Sergio Busquets and Iniesta was at its absolute peak.

In his book, My Story, he talked about how if he had chosen a different tactic ala Mourinho’s parked bus, the game might have turned out differently. But the legendary Scottish coach didn’t want to play that way. If he was going to lose, he was going to lose with honour, which is what eventually happened.

But according to many experts, it was the 2009 team that was the best ever. The 2008/09 treble is proof of that. This feat was then repeated by Barcelona once more in the 2014/15 season.

The Cameroonian’s stats in Barcelona alone then are 199 games played, 130 goals scored and 40 assists. The French striker has scored 49 goals and assisted 27 more in 121 games.

“I don’t think he has the quality of Nicolas Anelka. Thierry Henry was good, but I knew them and I prefer other players. After all, he wasn’t even up to my level,” Foot Mercato published the footage.

Following the publication of this footage, a wave of discontent has risen on social media and fans are certainly not disagreeing with the now 41-year-old former outstanding striker.

Henry was, after all, one of the best strikers in football history and also very popular, especially in England and France. His footballing journey after his active playing career is all the more bleak, and it is certainly not going as he hoped, but he is still at the very beginning.
