Viktor Tsygankov had the first chance of the match, but goalkeeper Craig Gordon made an excellent save. In the 17th minute Andriy Yarmolenko shot the ball over the goalkeeper, but it didn’t make it over the line.
The Scots, as if surprised by Ukraine’s arrival, did not come up with anything good going forward. In the 33rd minute, a goal was scored. Yarmolenko found the ball behind the defence and lobbed the ball to delight the away fans.
Ukraine took a deserved 1:0 lead into the cabins. After the change of sides, Ukraine added a second goal.
Roman Yaremchuk was not even covered by two stoppers in the penalty area and the Benfica Lisbon striker headed into the net. On the other side, Ryan Christie shot but only hit the centre of the goal.
Then John McGinn missed a chance, his header from the small area missed the half-empty net.
Hope came from Callum McGregor, who reduced the deficit in the 80th minute thanks to a goalkeeping error. Artem Dobvyk added an insurance goal in the last minute and Ukraine won 3-1.
