Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool in the summer, according to Mark Lawrenson. His departure was previously announced by Jürgen Klopp and would begin a whole new era for Liverpool. However, the departure of two key figures at the club in one year could have fatal consequences for the entire club.

Mark Lawrenson is a club icon at Anfield. He has played a remarkable 341 games for Liverpool, scoring 17 goals and 10 assists. Numbers that would be the envy of any central midfielder and Lawrenson started at central defender.

In the red colours the Englishman won 5 English titles, 3 League Cups, 2 English Super Cups. And most importantly helped the team to win the Champions League in the 1983/84 season. Along with Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush, Lawrenson was one of the main faces of the team.

“100% Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool in the summer. It doesn’t matter how the current season goes, I think there was some agreement at the club. He will go to play somewhere in Saudi Arabia where he will be a kingpin. And Liverpool will get big money for him and they will buy other players,” Lawrenson said.

Salah at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah came to Liverpool in 2017 for just €42 million. In this day and age and with the prices of players today, we can define a transfer as a daylight steal. Immediately, the Egyptian winger settled into the starting lineup and became the star of coach Klopp’s team.

In their very first season, Salah and co. were reaching for the Champions League trophy, but unfortunately their joy was thwarted by Real Madrid, who completed a hat-trick of wins in the competition. For Salah, the pain was even greater when he was forced to leave the pitch during the first half after an intervention by Ramos.

What didn’t work the first time, worked the second time. Liverpool won the Champions League in the 2018/19 season and who got most of the credit? Yes, Mohamed Salah, with contributions from attacking colleagues Mané and Firmino.

The current season has Liverpool pitched perfectly. They are currently in 1st place in the Premier League and are still in contention in the Champions League, FA Cup and will even take part in the Carabao Cup final. From a personal point of view, Salah tallies 19 goals and 10 assists in 28 games. In terms of numbers, he is attacking his best seasons.

Where could he be headed?

As Lawrenson mentioned, the Egyptian could head to Saudi Arabia, where he would be one of the bigger stars, essentially like everywhere else. Maybe even the biggest, since he’s Muslim.

A transfer to PSG may also be in play, who will likely be looking for a replacement for the departing Kylian Mbappé. Playing in Salah’s favour is the fact that he is only under contract until 2025 and has 31 years on his contract, so a potential transfer won’t be too expensive.
