Rwanda vs. Benin: Preview and betting tips

Wednesday’s poor football schedule will feature an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Rwanda and Benin. The winner will retain theoretical chances of qualification. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?

Rwanda took two valuable points from three matches with draws against Mozambique and Benin, but logically they were not enough for Senegal. They are two points behind third place at the halfway stage of the competition, but participation in the tournament is unlikely.

Surprisingly, Benin’s start to the qualifiers was even more unsuccessful. After losing to the favoured Senegal, it also fell to Mozambique. After last week’s draw, they are in last place, three points behind the qualification positions.

Rwanda’s key figures

Reliable goalscorer Meddie Kagere is still representing the home side, despite the fact that the pacy striker is now 36 years old. Steve Rubanguka is one of the few midget players kicking in Europe, specifically doing central midfield in the Moldovan league.

Benin’s key figures

The visitors rely on the productivity of Aiyegun Tosin, with the Benin midfielder notching 14 shots and three assists for Swiss side FC Zurich. Twenty-year-old talented midfielder Junior Olaitan is shining in Ligue 2, boasting a record of six goals and three assists from midfield.

Rwanda’s attack is not working at all. He has scored only three times in the past seven games, striking more than once in only one of the last 14 matches. It can’t even win 1-0, Rwanda has won only twice since September 2021.

Not many goals are falling in matches between African countries, as Benin’s record suggests. The latter has scored more than once in only two of its last 12 matches. When it got a three from Senegal, it played half the game shorthanded.

Given Rwanda’s dysfunctional attack and Benin’s organised and rarely making mistakes defensively and the form of their goal scorer Tosin, I think the visitors will win at least one of the halves.
