Kucherov scored a hat trick
Nikita Kucherov scored his fifth career hat trick in the Philadelphia Flyers vs. Tampa Bay Lightninng (3:6). He also had one assist. He contributed to the Flyers’ demolition in a big way. Thanks to this performance, he returned to the top of the Canadian scoring charts.
Kucherov became the first man this season to break the 80-point mark. He leapfrogged second-ranked Nathan MacKinnon by three points in his return to the scoring lead, where he spent a good portion of the season. He is currently at 31 goals and 49 assists in 47 games played.
Kucherov, in terms of multi-point games, is among the absolute top active players. He has already recorded four games this season in which he had 4 or more points. And in his last 8 games played, he has 4 games in which he has recorded at least 3 points.
In total, he’s now at 25 games in which he’s scored at least four points. That puts him tied for fifth among active players with Leon Draisaitl.
Sidney Crosby (38) is the top player in this statistic, followed by Connor McDavid (35), Alexander Ovechkin (32) and Evgeni Malkin (29).
Edmonton continues to win
Edmonton continues to stretch the longest winning streak by a Canadian team in NHL history, this time beating Columbus 4-1 on home ice. The Oilers won their 14th game in a row and continue to move to the top of the league after a miserable start to the season.
The man of the match was the home goalie Stuart Skinner, who had 27 saves and only one shot went behind his back.
Star Connor McDavid scored one goal to round out his point tally this season at 60 points. He is already well behind the leader Kucherov. So this year, the Art Ross Trophy, the trophy for the winner of the Canadian scoring trophy, doesn’t look too good.
McDavid is a five-time winner, as is, for example, Czech hockey player Jaromir Jagr. In a 14-game winning streak, McDavid is the Oilers’ most productive man, having recorded six goals and 13 assists.
