Los Angeles Clippers player Russell Westbrook reached a major milestone in Detroit. Although he was not the game’s top scorer, he drew the most attention as he broke the 25,000 point mark in his career.

Westbrook entered the game with 24,977 points

The Detroit Pistons vs. Los Angeles Clippers (125:136) saw the worst unit of the current season face off against one of the best units in the league. The spotlight was on Westbrook. He was averaging over 30 points per game just a few seasons ago.

However, in recent seasons, he has fallen out of the starting lineup with both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Clippers, which is why his scoring average has plummeted in the last two seasons. For example, this season he is already averaging only 11.3 points per game. So he entered the game with a 23-point deficit to beat that mark.

Westbrook is only the 6th man in the competition with Paul Geroge, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. But ironically, that position is the one that suits him. He hasn’t played 38 minutes per game in a long time, he has to settle for around 20-25 minutes per game. And especially in the last few games, he regularly scores over 20 points per game.

The Clippers had virtually no problem with Detroit’s total. The best scorer of the unit was traditionally Kawhi Leonard with 33 points. However, James Harden struggled incredibly in the game, he scored a measly 4 points in 33 minutes on the floor.

Russell Westbrook took advantage of his shooting woes, scoring the necessary 23 points in 25 minutes on the floor. He reached the milestone with less than three minutes left in the game. He also recorded 9 assists and 3 rebounds.

Two players on the Clippers who have broken the 25,000 point mark this season!

This season, the Clippers are proud to have two players on the team who have already managed to score 25,000 points in the NBA and both of them have done it in the current season. Harden reached that mark two months ago. Westbrook became only the 25th player in NBA history to reach that mark.

In addition, Westbrook is the only player in the NBA, along with the legendary LeBron James, to reach the milestone of 25,000 points scored during his career, in addition to amassing at least 9,000 assists and 8,000 rebounds. The 2016-17 NBA MVP will surely be one of the dark horses of this year’s playoffs with the Clippers, where they could really go far.

The record holder for triple-doubles

In addition, Westbrook is the record holder for the number of regular season games in which he managed to rack up double-digit numbers in three different statistical indicators, simply put, triple-doubles. In his career, he has 198 of them.

However, in the last two seasons, he hasn’t recorded one. He broke Oscar Robertson’s record in that regard, and it was with the 2016-17 season that he won the MVP and stole Robertson’s record for triple-doubles in a season, he managed a whopping 42 of those while still in an Oklahoma City Thunder jersey.
