Last night’s FA Cup match between Wrexham and Sheffield United was a footballing feast for the eyes. A total of six goals were scored during the match. Apart from the goal scoring, the fans were also impressed by the shape of the red card. Why was the card round?

Both the teams played a great game and the spectators were definitely not bored. Sheffield should have been a paper favourite at first sight. After all, their opponents are in the fifth highest league, but it wouldn’t be the FA Cup if there wasn’t another surprise.

A club playing three leagues below them certainly didn’t give their opponents anything for nothing. A frantic game ended in a 3-3 draw when Sheffield secured an equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The match will be replayed.

Round red card

The fact that theBlades were playing the last twenty minutes at a numerical disadvantage when midfielder Daniel Jebbinson took to the showers prematurely contributed to Sheffield’s failure to fulfil their role as favourites.

There would have been nothing unusual about the red card if it hadn’t been round in shape.

It certainly begs the question, why? We briefly saw round cards in the Premier League at the turn of the century. The use of the shape of the cards is to help colour blind persons recognise the penalty awarded.

The advantage of the different shape is also for the referee. At the moment when he wants to quickly award a card, he will not be able to tell by the shape which one to take out of his pocket. The different shape gives him a clear clue.

Wrexham to the Premier League

We wrote an article about the tiny club from the fifth highest competition and its famous owner earlier.

Ryan Reynolds has a clear goal and dream. He’d like to take the club straight to the Premier League

We want to go one step at a time. We say it all the time. We want to go to the Premier League, as crazy as that may sound. If there’s only a theoretical possibility of going from the fifth tier to the pros, why wouldn’t we do it? ” said Reynolds, quoted by the Daily Mail.
